Students raise nearly £1000 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice
Rotherham College – part of the RNN Group – learners raised nearly £1000 for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice over the last year through a number of fundraising events.
In May 2022, hospitality and catering students served an Indian Buffet night in the Wharncliffe for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice whilst gaining experience of preparing and serving a buffet.
In December, childcare and health learners organised a ‘name the bear’ activity and a raffle to also raise money.
Staff also rose to the challenge by holding a staff quiz in the Wharncliffe Restaurant, Rotherham College’s training restaurant, alongside a raffle and auction.
Eleanor Hughes, the regional fundraiser for Rotherham, Barnsley, Doncaster and North Lincs | Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice visited the Wharncliffe Restaurant this week to be presented with a cheque for the total sum raised by some of the learners who took part in the fundraising events.
Chris McManamon, Curriculum Lead for Hospitality and Childcare said, “I am so proud of all the students who took part and helped to raise this amazing sum of money for such a special local charity, Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
“The charity does such great work and learners really got so much out of organising these events as part of their learning objectives for such a good cause.”
Eleanor Hughes added, “We look after children with life-limiting conditions across South Yorkshire, North Derbyshire, North Nottinghamshire and parts of North Lincolnshire and support their families too. It costs £5.1M to keep our doors open each year.
“We are so very grateful to Rotherham College for all their brilliant support, especially the students and staff who took part in the fundraising events.”
