Student Wins Lions Award

In June 2017, Rotherham College’s students celebrated their success at the Student Award Ceremonies. Naomi Hall, studying Access to Nursing and GCSE Maths, was especially pleased to discover she had won the Maltby Lions Club Award for Student of the Year.

Maltby Lions representatives, Pat Harker and Norman Davis, attended the Award Ceremony at the Dinnington Campus to present the certificate to Naomi in front of her tutors and classmates as well as a £200 prize to assist with her studies.

Pat said “We’re proud to support Rotherham College and each year we award a grant to help students.”

The Lions Award has been presented to a student from Rotherham College each year for the last six years, the tutors nominate students anonymously and the one who deserves it the most is chosen for the award.

The Maltby Lions are an organisation who assist the community in a variety of ways, they support people with disabilities, accidents, those in need as well as fundraising. They cover the local community from Braithwell to Aston and their service is confidential, anyone can get in touch and request their help, they then investigate and help if they are able to.

They support Rotherham College, Dinnington High School, Wales Comprehensive School and Aston Comprehensive with an annual award to a deserving student from each to assist with their studies.

Naomi was extremely happy to have won the award and will be using the prize money to buy supplies ready for studying Health and Human Science at university. She said, “I didn’t expect it, I just came to get a qualification. I am very proud to have been chosen for the award. It will be contributing to my studies at university.”
