Student Run Café Serves Up 5 Star Hygiene Rating

The Futures department Café at the Heart at Rotherham College’s Dinnington Campus received a 5 star food hygiene rating from the Food Standards Agency in March 2016.

The Café @ the Heart was opened in February 2015 and is run by the Futures department Entry Level 3 students. The students are involved in all aspects of running the café; from the research, prototypes, stock rotation, cooking and decorating to making the hand crafted cards available.

The Café hosts a range of coffee mornings at valentines, Easter, Halloween and Christmas. There is a large selection of cakes and biscuits to buy, crafts to buy and raffles to take part in.

Staff say “The students have got their just dessert. They’re motivated and come in with new ideas and people see that they do it all. We’ve had a good response, we even have orders to take away and family events and get orders from town centre for cakes.”

Drop in for a coffee and a cake, the Café is open 5 days a week from 9am until 2.30pm for staff, students and visitors.
