Stand With Ukraine: Tourism Students Host Good for All Coffee and Cake Morning
Tourism and Hospitality students hosted a coffee and cake morning at The Wharncliffe to raise money for Rotherham College’s Good for All charity, which aims to help the citizens of Ukraine through the crisis.
Level 3 year 2 students practised their customer service skills through selling sweet treats to customers, as well as organising a raffle and a quiz. Prizes included Easter egg hampers and spa gift sets.
As part of their course, students had to host an event or a conference, and the Year 2’s decided to do something in aid of Ukraine. Staff suggested that they should raise money for Good for All, the charity run by Rotherham College.
Ryan Haines, a Level 3 Year 2 student, stated that planning and implementing the event was invaluable for understanding real-life scenarios in the industry.
He said: ‘’Being able to put on events outside of the classroom is amazing, as it helps me understand what situations I may face within my career.
‘’It has been great to show that Rotherham College stands in solidarity with Ukraine.’’
Lisa Bramley, Curriculum Team Leader in Tourism, stated that having practical tasks for students to complete as part of their course allows them to understand the theory beyond the classroom.
She said: ‘’It has been a challenging experience for students to balance many different elements that go into planning an event, but it has been extremely rewarding for them.
‘’They have shown the ability to put together a full-scale event, show professionalism, and ensure the guests have a good time.
‘’It has been a privilege to be part of an event that fundraises for Ukraine.’’
