Rotherham College Student to Compete in WorldSkills UK Media Make-up Body Heat 2018
Rotherham College student, Emily Smith, has got through to the WorldSkills UK Media Make-up Body Heat competition which will be taking place in Manchester on Tuesday 19th June.
Emily began her journey in 2015 with a Level 2 course in Hair and Media Make-up and is now doing the HNC course. During her time at College she has taken part in numerous extracurricular activities and competitions including the AHT in Blackpool, the National Make-up Awards, War Paint and was chosen to compete in an international competition in Japan to name a few.
After winning Gold at UK Skills last year, Emily is in the running for this year’s competition after making it through the photo stage of the competition. Emily will be going on to the second stage of the competition which is the Regional Heats in Media Make-up.
Both the photo stage and the Regional Heats have the theme of ‘Legends, Divas and Superstars’, the Heats will involve the competitors recreating the look from their photo submission on the day of the event using any props and prosthetics they have created and brought with them during their two weeks of prep time.
Emily has chosen to do an intricate look based on the theme of Michael Jackson on her fellow student who will be her model at the competition, Megan Bentley.
The winner of the Heat will be moving onto the WorldSkills UK Final competition sponsored by Coleg Cambria in October 2018.
Emily said “I’m excited to complete my final look and showcase it. The time frame is small for the intricate design I’ve chosen; I don’t like to make it easy I prefer to challenge myself.
“The last few years of my course have increased my skills and helped prepare me for the competition.”
