Music Performance and Fashion Students Raise Money for Kidney Care UK

Music Performance and Fashion Higher Education students at Rotherham College collaborated to develop and manage an event to raise money for Kidney Care UK, a charity that aims to improve the lives of people with kidney disease throughout the country, by offering support and advice to them, their families and kidney units.

The event was Walk of Life, a fashion show to celebrate both fashion and music through the decades. Fashion students created both classic and interpretive pieces to represent iconic fashion eras from the 1950s to 1990s, while Music Performance students played well-known hits for each fashion walk.

The organisation of the event has taken six months to prepare, with students from both courses working together to cover design, music production, marketing and budget management.

Sophie Woodcock, a Fashion degree student said, “It’s been both exciting and a challenge to create our statement pieces, and our friends and other students have had the opportunity to get involved as models; however, I think out of all the eras I’ve enjoyed creating 1970s fashion the most, because of the different types of fabrics I’ve had the chance to work with.”

Student’s efforts of creating Walk of Life has raised over £600 for the charity. A representative from Kidney Care UK said, “Thank you so much to everyone involved! We receive no government funding, so every donation helps us to provide support for more kidney patients throughout the UK.”
