16-19 Tuition Fund: Government Funding to Support Students

25 January 2021

As a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, the government announced £1billion of funding to support children and young people to be able to catch up on lost time due to school and college closures. This funding is available for the academic year 20/21.

The RNN Group will use this government funding to provide online and face to face support and teaching for small groups of 16-19 study programme students. The funding will provide additional tuition and teaching activity above what is already planned for a student.

Eligible students who will benefit most include those:

  • Who have not yet achieved a grade 4 in GCSE Maths and/or English
  • Who are studying vocational courses where practical skills sessions and assessment has been deferred because of lockdown
  • Who have struggled to fully develop their digital skills to engage in remote teaching and learning activities
  • Who have special educational needs and disabilities (SEND), and have experienced additional disruption to learning as a result of their specific needs and disabilities.

We will do this by recruiting additional staff to support the students by:

  • Providing additional teaching and support to students in preparation for GCSE Maths and/or English summer examinations
  • Supporting students to develop their digital skills for successful study
  • Supporting students to catch up on vocational practical and technical skills development

Each group will consist of between three and five students. This will ensure they receive the intensive and individualised teaching, learning and support they have missed during the COVID-19 pandemic.
