Female Engineering Students Embark on Inspiring Educational Trip
On Monday the 20th of November, a group of female engineering students at Rotherham College travelled to Leeds on an educational trip to visit Northern Trains Ltd. The trip, organised by the College’s engineering department, aimed to provide the students with valuable insights into the railway industry and engineering, and to inspire them to pursue careers in this traditionally male-dominated field.
Northern Train Ltd is a publicly owned train operating company in England and is the second largest train operator in the UK, transporting 100 million passengers each year.
Students, accompanied by college tutors, travelled by train to the maintenance depot at Neville Hill. The day consisted of a full site tour, talks given by the female apprentices and other female employees at Northern Rail. The learners had the chance to ask questions, seek advice, and gain valuable insights into the different careers, routes, and opportunities within the railway engineering sector.
The trip aimed not only to expose the students to the practical aspects of railway engineering but also to foster a sense of community and support among aspiring female engineers. It proved to be a transformative experience, breaking down barriers and encouraging aspiring female engineers to envision a future where they play a crucial role in shaping the world of engineering.
