Media Make-up Department Showcase Skills to The Duke of Kent
Students and staff from Rotherham College’s Media Make-up department were honoured to meet His Royal Highness, The Duke of Kent, as part of an event in London.
Hosted by the Edge Foundation in September 2018, the event took place as part of an initiative to introduce young people to career opportunities.
The charity’s Royal patron was escorted around the exhibition at the Park Plaza Riverband Hotel. The Duke met staff from the UK-wide charity Career Ready. Based in London, Career Ready links employers with schools and colleges to open up the world of work to young people.
Rotherham College’s Media Make-up department was invited to attend and showcase their impressive skills, which has previously won the prestigious Beacon Award. The students and staff spoke to the Duke and showcased work they do with the NHS, including prosthetic work and simulated injuries to assist with diagnosis. They also exhibited their work and hosted a ‘have a go area’ at a table to discuss their work with the audience.
Katie Asgari, Curriculum Team Leader, said “It was an honour to meet the Duke and a great opportunity for the students to attend and demonstrate their skills to the public.”
