London Calling: Art and Fashion Students Inspired by Trip to the UK’s Capital

Rotherham College’s Level 3 Art and Fashion students recently visited London on a residential trip as part of their final year of studies.

The aim of the residential trip was to allow the students to gather research whilst drawing inspiration from their surroundings in a diverse, cultural, capital city for their final projects at the end of term three.

The students visited the British Museum, the Tate Modern, the Victoria and Albert Museum of Art and Design, the Natural History Museum, the Science Museum, and the Saatchi Gallery, whilst also exploring the iconic sights of Big Ben, the London Eye, Buckingham Palace, and Harrods over their 4-day stay.

Curriculum Team Leader for Art and Design, Richard Lyon, believed that the trip was extremely beneficial for the Level 3 students. He said:

“Being able to hold a residential visit again has been wonderful. We have seen some incredible modern art, priceless relics and historical artefacts, such as the Rosetta stone, costumes throughout the ages, moon landers and of course, dinosaurs!

“The value that a trip like this has for our students is profound. The experiences and research these students have taken from this visit will now feed into and enrich their project work. These types of visits inspire, educate and instil the aspiration to achieve a career within the creative industries.”

Level 3 Art and Design student, Jessica Lailder said:

“The London residential trip was amazing. It was very interesting to see all kinds of new and different pieces of art that I hadn’t previously seen. The sightseeing was also brilliant and in general, the trip allowed me and my classmates to form a closer bond with each other. The whole trip will be forever memorable and I cannot recommend it enough!”
