Apprentice awarded National Equans Apprentice Award
Following his recent success at the HiP Magazine Learner of the Year awards, RNN Group apprentice, Nathan Knowles, has been awarded the National Equans Apprentice award in the Level 2-3 Operations category. The awards took place on the 23rd March in Manchester at the Imperial War Museum, where talented apprentices from across the country attended to compete in the different categories.
Equans is a national and global provider of technical, FM, regeneration and energy services and are currently servicing the Rotherham Borough. They hold an annual award show to showcase the dedicated work of apprentices. Nathan has been learning his trade in the Plumbing department at Rotherham College and doing his on the job training with Equans for the past 18 months.
We caught up with Nathan to see how he felt about his recent win and to find out what’s next for him.
“I’m over the moon. I really didn’t expect it for a second, there were hundreds of other apprentices there so I really didn’t think I had a chance. I was just there to have a good time and enjoy the night, so the win is just a massive bonus.
My plan after my apprenticeship ends is to stay on with the council and Equans, improving my knowledge and skills. I’m treated like an actual plumber and not an apprentice, the only difference is the wage. I have the respect and support that I want and to me, respect is worth a lot more than the money.”
Nathan’s tutor, Frazer Knowles, said “We’re very proud of him. He’s very hard-working, self-motivated and he goes above and beyond, he even helps out at open events and speaks to other potential learners about the Plumbing facilities and the apprentice role. A well-deserved win”
Nathan, along with other category winners, will now go on to the UKBU Apprentice Awards which will take place as part of the Excellence Awards later this month.
Congratulations Nathan!
