Hair and Beauty Student Places Top 10 in the Region
Level 3 Hair and Beauty student Molly Jeffcock has placed in the Top 10 in the ‘Nail Technician of the Year’ category at the UK Hair and Beauty Awards. The awards took place in March, followed by the grand final in Birmingham on 21 April 2023.
The UK Hair and Beauty awards take place annually, celebrating talented local and regional businesses as well as individuals in the hair and beauty industry. After some encouragement from her friends and classmates, Molly submitted two photos of her most recent set of nails and her favourite set of nails for this year’s competition entry requirements, which earned her a place in the top 10 for the Yorkshire area.
She said: “I’m still really shocked; I didn’t expect to get as far as I did!”
Molly has been studying hair and beauty at Rotherham College for four years. “I love learning new skills and broadening my current skill set. I also love being creative and having creative freedom. I started an office job and absolutely hated it; it really wasn’t for me. Originally, I wanted to be a tattoo artist, but I don’t think I could be that critical of my own work. I’ve always had a creative spark, so it’s a much better fit for me, and I’ve been really enjoying it.”
When asked what her plans were for after college, Molly said: “I’ve got my own set up at home where I design custom press-on nails, so I’d like to be able to put all my time and energy into doing that full-time and becoming self-employed.”
Molly’s tutor and Curriculum Team Leader of Hair and Beauty at Rotherham College, Tracy Mills, said:
“Molly has done fantastic getting to the final with the outstanding design created. We are so proud of you as a college and as a tutor, and this shows in the skills and talent you have got.”
Congratulations Molly!
