This programme is designed for adults that desire to work in the construction industry, specifically wood occupations. This programme is an introduction to the industry and allows adults to develop the basic skills and knowledge required to work within the Joinery trade. The knowledge gained from this programme will prepare adults for the CSCS assessment
You will study a range of topics including:
- Understand the key principles of and be able to work safely and be aware of key health, safety and welfare issues
- Move, handle and store resources, such as materials and components
- Interpret and follow written and verbal instructions
- Select the required materials to carry out the work, including timber, tools and fixings
- Understand how to calculate quantity, length and area
- Carry out job tasks including measuring, marking out, fitting, cutting, splicing, finishing, positioning and securing
Upon successful completion of this programme students will be in a position to apply for the CSCS card assessments, which will enable them to work safely on construction sites.
This will enable them to begin their career in the construction industry, students will have access to local employers and will develop their employability skills in preparation for work within the construction industry.
There are no formal entry requirements but an interest in working within the construction industry is essential.
