Engineering – Jayden
Jayden Ford, an engineering student at Rotherham College, has made leaps and bounds in his engineering career whilst studying with us. Jayden joined Rotherham College in September last year with a comprehensive EHCP, studying a Level 2 Certificate in Mechanical Engineering whilst also resitting his GCSE Maths and undertaking work experience at T&T Automation, a South Yorkshire engineering company that specialises in CAD/CAM technology and CNC machinery.
Jayden Ford, Level 2 Certificate in Mechanical Engineering“My college experience was a bit difficult at the start but as I settled in, it got better and I was able to achieve better grades than I wanted in Engineering and improve my Maths, thanks to support from college. This allowed me to build up my confidence and I was able to make new friends and even have good chats with the staff.”
Despite initially struggling with the subject and receiving support from college due to his EHCP, Jayden received exemplary feedback from his employers which resulted in his work experience being extended further. He then went on to improve his GCSE Maths score in August 2023 and passed his Engineering course, having been awarded a Merit for the practical project.

Laura Barnes, Curriculum Team Leader of Engineering has been supporting Jayden during his time at college, and has recognised Jayden’s hard work throughout the year.

“Jayden has been a pleasure to have on our mechanical engineering course over the last year. He has worked hard to not only achieve his engineering qualification but improved his GCSE maths grade, having additional tutoring in his spare time. We are so proud of Jayden and can’t wait to see his progress this academic year.”
Jayden has gone above and beyond during his time at Rotherham College and will be returning in September to continue his studies.
